COVID-19 INDUCED DIABETIC KETOACIDOSIS REMISSION OF DIABETES ON FOLLOW UP: A CASE REPORT

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Ever since Covid 19 pandemic, a surge in complications of diabetes mellitus is observed. COVID induced ketoacidosis, hyperglycemia, thrombosis and mucormycosis are reported worldwide.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We report an intriguing first presentation of a 29 year young male who presented to us with complaints of fever, body aches, altered taste sensation and shortness of breath. He was having tachypnea, dry mucous membranes and was in respiratory distress. He was diagnosed to have Covid 19 pneumonia. In addition to that, his baseline investigations showed high blood glucose and he turned out to be in state of diabetic ketoacidosis. He was managed in isolation unit and had successful recovery from Covid pneumonia and was discharged on tapering doses of steroids and basal bolus insulin regimen. Interestingly, follow up is suggestive of remission of diabetes mellitus.
CONCLUSION: Due to symptomatic overlap point of care check in to blood sugars are highly warranted in Covid 19 affected patients.
